Meet Our Staff and a Few of our Volunteers

The ministries of Mathewson Street United Methodist Church are guided by Pastor Jack Jones. He receives the Spirit-inspired assistance of many members of the congregation, a few of whom are introduced to you here.

Pastor Jack Jones

Pastor Jack Jones has been in ministry for more than 30 years, with a special focus on serving those of limited means. He is a graduate of the College of Wooster and of Boston University School of Theology.

Lay Leader Lisa Carter

Lisa Carter also chairs Church Council and is President of the Board of Directors of our lay partner organization 134 Collaborative.  She earned her undergraduate degree, medical degree, and Master's of Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She works at the Family Health Center of Worcester, a busy community health center that serves an ethnically diverse, low-income, urban population.

Scott Budnick

Scott Budnick is on our Board of Trustees and is the heart and soul of the volunteer group hosting our 8:00 a.m. Prayer & Friendship Breakfast. The Christian Science Monitor has labeled him a "difference maker," and he was featured in a 2013 CSMarticle on those who make positive, Christ-inspired contributions to our social fabric (click here: Scott Budnick - Difference Maker).

Leo Felice

Leo Felice is our foyer host and a treasured member of our church family. He has a kind but strong bearing and has the background and training to keep our church a safe sanctuary for all of our parishioners and guests. He has extensive training in protection services and is the president of the security firm Eagle Personal Protection Specialists.

Barbara Geary

Barbara Geary has been one of MSUMC's stalwart volunteers for the past many years-- giving faithful and exemplary service day-in and day-out. She serves as a greeter often, both on Sundays and during the week. She assists with our Afia Center, as well as with our weekly and monthly adult Bible study offerings. Her love of our Lord and of our church gives inspiration to us all.

Audie Jennings

Audie Jennings and her husband Bill have been members of MSUMC -- and faithful servants to its missions -- for more than three decades. Attracted to our church "because of its urban mission, location, and faith journey support," Audie has served in a number of capacities including, at present, a member of the Board of Trustees. She holds a B.S. and M.Ed. from Pennsylvania State University in Rehabilitation Counseling. She has worked in mental health group homes and rehabilitation programs, as well as in the directing of middle-school Community Service Learning and Mentoring programs. Audie volunteers her time and energies throughout the year, and we are blessed by the intelligence, creativity, and wit that she brings to so many of MSUMC's community events and activities.

Steven Pennell

Steven Pennell is a longtime member of our Choir and the Worship Committee, and he designs the worship space each Sunday. He grew up in Cranston, Rhode Island as an American Baptist. Coming to Mathewson Street was a warm and accepting embrace of unconditional love and acceptance. The diversity and position of welcoming the LGBTQ community brought him here.  Music and shaping worship to be spiritually lifting and engaging is one of the ways Steven uses his education and experience in theater, dance, visual arts, and spirituality. He works as Coordinator of Urban Arts and Culture at URI Feinstein Providence Campus next door to the church, often blending the diversity and social justice arts programs from URI with the ministries and outreach at Mathewson Street.
